Things to remember in November
- We will begin our day inside from now until Spring. Please continue to send your child with clothes that are appropriate for the weather conditions as we will be spending time outside at the end of each work period and for pick up time. Check your child’s cubbie to be sure his/her change of clothes are also seasonally appropriate.
- Cold and flu season is upon us, please be sure to review our sick policy in the Parent Handbook. We are taking extra measures in the classroom to ensure the health of your child and know that you will be doing the same. Thank you for your support!
- The holidays are approaching and so are the busy schedules that go along with them. Children thrive when there is consistency. While some diversions from our schedules are expected this time of year, make it the exception instead of the norm. Regular bedtimes and consistent healthy meals can help offset some of the holiday craziness. Even picking your child up from school on time makes a difference in their world.
In November our circle time curriculum will include:
Mondays our study of art continues. We will be looking at the life and masterpieces of Vincent van Gogh.
Tuesdays will begin our study of the Thanksgiving timeline. We will reenact this historical event beginning in the year 1602. Our timeline will take us all the way up to the first Thanksgiving celebrated. We will then move on to modern Thanksgiving traditions. The class will help prepare a feast of our own, including Stone Soup, and enjoy our own traditions.
Wednesdays open with the study of our globe, and how a map is made. We will start the study of the continents with North America. The study of our great continent will include the plants and animals that inhabit it. We will also take a look at the indigenous people and their customs.
Thursdays continue to be a study of acclaimed authors. November will be the wonderful work of Tomie de Paola. Please bring in any books by this author to be shared with the class.
Fridays are our study of living things. We will be starting this month with the introduction of plants. We will then progress into the needs of a plant (air, sun, water, soil). The parts of a plant will also be discussed. A special treat will be to sample the edible parts of a plant (leaf, stem, roots, fruit)
Thank You!!! for sending change for our Rebuild Your School Hurricane relief fundraiser. We initially raised a total of $163.43 in change! Our school matched that amount so that we could donate over $300 to the hurricane victim schools in Houston. Someone recently brought in more change and we will match that amount as well as it goes to Montessori schools affected in Puerto Rico. What a great project for the children to be involved in! Being a part of something that is bigger than yourself is so important. Giving feels good!
