Valentine’s Day
Please bring in an empty tissue box (or box of similar size) for us to decorate. Bring box in by Monday, Feb. 5. Please be sure your child has a Valentine for everyone on Friday, February 14th when they will be exchanged at our Valentines Dance. NO CANDY PLEASE. We have 26 children enrolled. It is easiest if your child puts his/her name on each card only. We encourage children to dress up for the dance if they would like and we will be practicing our dance etiquette at that time.
At circle time in February…
Mondays: Monday’s in February will begin the study of music. We will first focus on rhythm– learning about different kinds of rhythm instruments and then putting together our own rhythm band. Any rhythm instruments you might have at home or any hidden talents are welcome at our school!
Tuesdays: Tuesday’s we study the clock. First, we discuss why it is important to have clocks and look at all different kinds of clocks. Then we learn the different parts on a clock and next comes telling time. You can help increase your child’s knowledge about clocks by keeping one in their room and referring to it when they get up in the morning, at bedtime, at lunchtime, and when they go to school. Tuesday’s are also music with Miss Kim.
Wednesdays: On Wednesday’s we go East to the continent of Asia. We will be looking at the vegetation, the interesting animals, and the wonderful people of Asia. Our celebration of Asia will conclude with a Chinese lunch where we will be able enjoy many popular Asian dishes and practice eating with chopsticks (dressing up is optional).
Thursdays: It is on Thursday’s that our study of poetry begins. We read many different kinds of poems and discuss them after. Some poems are silly, some are riddles, and some make us sad. Many times lengthy discussions are held after reading poems. The study of poems will conclude with writing our own.
Fridays: The school week ends with the study of amphibians. We will first look at an amphibian and determine how we know that it is a living thing (the seven characteristics). Then we learn about what makes an amphibian so special. Learning to name the parts of an amphibian is also part of the study.
A reminder that Friday’s are also “show and tell”. Please help your child choose something we can all learn from.
A Special Note
We will begin New student registration for the 2018-2019 school year this month. We expect our class to fill quickly so please get your registration back to us in time. Please feel free to schedule a time to talk to your teachers if you have any questions regarding your child’s progress or the upcoming school year. We value our current students and their families.
